DRAWING LESSONS RECAP: Day Two, Tuesday, March 18
Yesterday was the second day of the seven day installation at The Drawing Center Andrea Bowers & Suzanne Lacy: Drawing Lessons. It is time artist Suzanne Lacy learns to draw, and artist Andrea Bowers will attempt to rectify this essential artistic illiteracy in Lacy’s oeuvre. Drawing lessons provided by Bowers over the course of seven days will serve as a platform for conversations; resultant drawings; and the installation of the lesson environment. As they work together under scrutiny of the audience, Bowers and Lacy will explore in work and conversation questions related to feminism, activism, the museum and public practice art. Throughout the project, the artists invite a number of artists to join Bowers in teaching Lacy to draw, while several curators will serve as models for the lessons.
Tuesday’s activities included a discussion with artist Joyce Kozloff and a figure drawing lesson with artist Mary Beth Edelson. Nato Thompson, Chief Curator at Creative Time served as the model for Edelson’s lesson.Come check out the performance, on view through March 23. A schedule of daily events can be seen HERE.
